Day 16 - DMZ Briefing and Hongdae

Today, we had a DMZ briefing to prepare for our field trip to the DMZ next Friday. A US Army officer came in and talked to us about we should dress and behave while we are there. He also gave us a crash course in recent Korean history from ~1850 until the present. It was interesting and I heard a lot of military facts and statistics about the Korean War that I had never heard before.

After the briefing, I went and got lunch with a friend. We ate a Korean restaurant near our dorm for the first time and it was very good. I got ox head soup, which was meat and rice noodles in a tasty broth with sides of rice and kimchi and radish (of course).

After lunch, I went with a group of girl to check out Hongdae in the daytime, as we have only been there at night before. It's a completely different place in the day! There are a ton of clothing stores and street vendors that open up, as well as art places and secondhand clothing stores. It has a very artistic, Bohemian vibe in the daytime.

After walking around Hongdae for a bit, we headed back to Yonsei and rested before meeting up with even more friends to go to the Itaewon district in order to see a "rap battle" which is a competition where rappers perform and the audience decides who the winner was. It's kind of like a talent show for rap.

Pad thai for dinner!

Disappointingly, almost no one showed up! There were only a few people there besides the group I was with and none of the rappers were particularly talented. So after about an hour we decided to head out and go eat Taco Bell in Hongdae on the way back to campus.

That's all for now~
